Why children are not cute, but are actually terrifying:

As a kid, maybe 5 or 6, my parents took us to see an open-air performance of Macbeth. My mother cautioned me that there would be people killed in the play, and true to her word, several mock heads ended up on spikes.

At the end of the play she asked if it scared me, and I whined, “NO… They were just pretending!” Totally deprived of the promised slaughter.
